As lifelong diabetic I’m trying a specific “weight loss” medicine… here’s my experience thus far.

I’m in my early 50s and have been insulin dependent for the past 15 years. About a month or so ago started researching some of these new “miracle” diabetic, once a week injectable, medications. I attended a diabetic Q and A seminar in early December then talked my PC and Endocrinologist. Along with my research and their input we decided on one. Here’s my experience 6 weeks in…

First off there are now many of these medications all slightly different. Over the last 18 months or so they have become extremely popular mainly due to a popular side affect… weight loss. These medications were extremely hard to get a year or so ago and equally as difficult to have insurance approve the medicine. The public who could afford the out of pocket cost, who didn’t even have diabetes, were buying them up for the weight loss purpose.

Because of the extreme popularity the demand shot up and companies started building more factories to produce more of the medication. Production now meets the demand and most medicines are now pretty easy to get. The industry is moving at light speed and more and more competitors are producing the, as some doctors are calling them, Miracle Drug.

I specifically gravitated to one of the medications mainly because of the additional side affect of increasing heart stregnth. Aside from diabetes I also have heart disease due to it being hereditary. I have nothing to gain by sharing my experience other then letting ppl know who are teetering wether they should take one or not, what I’ve noticed in the first 6 weeks.

The first 4 (of 16 doses to reach the top dose) I didn’t experience much. I did notice that I wasn’t hungry as often and maybe not eating AS MUCH. I’m 5’10 and stocky. Life long stocky build from my years and continued weightlifting hobby. I’m not fat or obese by any means but like most 50 year olds I have some extra weight around my stomach and handles. My clothes fit and I look good. The 5-8th dose doubled the first 4 doses and the med will do the same with doses 9-12 and 13-16.

Took my 6th dose, injected in my stomach which is absolutely painless, over the weekend and NOW I’m experiencing benefits. It’s not that food disgusts me, it’s just eating doesn’t occur to me. In fact, I had lunch yesterday with a friend and only ate 3/4 of it. In my life, especially eating out, I don’t think I’ve ever not cleaned my plate. Yesterday I was full and just didn’t want any more. The medication helps slow down digestion. It’s not a fat burner. You just don’t want or need to eat more. Our body will let us know when we need calories for energy and then we will eat. So many bad habits we have, myself included, as adults.

Also, the last 3 days I haven’t needed A SINGLE DOSE of insulin. I rest my sugar 3 or 4 times a day and I’m usually a blood sugar around 200 after an hour and a half after eating. The last 3 days I haven’t been over 130. I’ve probably lost 3 or 4 pounds in the last 6 weeks but now the higher dose I’m literally eating less. Eating simply hasn’t “occurred” to me as I’ve only had 2 meals yhe last few days each day. I take protein before and after my workouts and intermittently a piece of fruit or 2 per day. I’m not sure if my heart is strengthening but my appetite and blood sugar are getting positive results.

Just thought I’d share my experience thus far.

Had a sugar level of 18 when I was sick in December.
Went to the doctor and was testd at 13.

Changed my diet and check daily. Between 5.7 and 6.6 consistently. You don't always need medication.

Nice documentation IMBN.

What you neglected to mention is which medication you are using.
I left the name out on purpose cause I didn’t want to come across as promoting. However, I was started on Mournjaro and it’s working as I explained. We decided on this medication because it strengthens the heart as well as the weight loss and reinvigorates the pancreas to start producing a more regular flow of insulin.

B… that’s fantastic!! Congratulations… I believe u are referring to A1C. Diabetics strive for below 7. A1C level is a 3 month average of diabetic levels. I had an 11 at one point and that’s dangerous… 18 though bro?? Ur lucky they caught it then and again, great job and lowering that shit dude. Not easy to do!
